Basic Water Safety
This waterside programme is for individuals and groups of all levels. Phuket is all about cooling off in the water, so its hugely important that you and your staff are properly trained to look after those in your care. The One Day BWS course covers a range of topics on water safety, rescue and equipment. It is also a hugely valuable course for those who may not be able to swim themselves. A great course.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING (ERT)

The SGS Training Center has also created one of the most in-depth Security and Safety Training Programmes available and its called the ERT. Emergency Response Team.

The core purpose of the programme is to assist organisations to create an in-house team of trained emergency responders. The unique design of the programme allows delegates to not only develop the necessary skill sets, but also to have an integral role in the design and creation of emergency response policy.

Rather than delivered in annual training days like conventional training programmes, the real strength with the ERT programme is that it is delivered over a period of between 4 to 9 months – depending on course content and client requirements.

We recognise, that its difficult for organisations to release a group of people at the same time to attend training courses. So we design our courses around your operations. That way, smaller numbers of participants take part in segmented training days throughout the programme. With ‘homework’ modules fitted in between training sessions, the extra benefit is that continual learning and utilisation of new skills, means skill retention is much higher.

The courses are a perfect blend of introductory theory, but harnessed and developed through table top scenarios and live, on site drills. This training course is unlike any that you, or your staff, have been through before.

Spreading the training over a period of time not only reduces the time constraints for staff participation, but increases the retention of information and it also allows for budgets to spread several months.

SAFETY WORKSHOPS

July 10th was launch date for the new safety workshops being offered by the SGS Training Center, with instructor Ton walking workshop participants through CPR and the use of AED machines.

It also marked the launch date of the new Emergency Response Team (ERT) Training course, with a practice scenario prepared for teams of the workshop participants. Due to popularity, SGS will design and deliver regular workshops for HR & security staff of the Siam Guardian Services protected properties.

Look out for our next workshop dates on our newsletters or updates on our Facebook page – www.facebook.com/sgsphuket

TEEN ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN

Our training center is very excited to announce the beginning of what we hope to be a long term safety project for Phuket. The launch of the Teen Road Safety Campaign, with workshops designed specifically for teenagers and new, young road users delivered by our very experienced safety instructor at any school, college or University on the island for free! Supported by Class Act Media with their helmet campaign and by the Phuket Community Foundation with their back light replacement project, the team can now combine their resources to make a powerful statement to Phuket youths – Their lives on the roads are a priority and they have the power to be safer.

The campaign kicked off at the Phuket Technical College on the 27th July with over 130 students kept attentive during the workshop with various fun safety awareness activities. To promote the event and engage the teenagers attention, Chinawut and Sophie Indracusin introduced the workshop and a brand new competition for the teenagers to enter

– The Teen Road Safety Video Competition! –

So if you have any staff with teenagers at your property, get them involved! There is 30,000 Baht in cash prizes to be won, and the competition is open to all Phuket youth.

For more info on this fantastic competition, click any of the following:

It could not have been done with out the support of our valuable sponsors – Class Act Media’s Live 89.5fm and The Phuket News, The Phuket Community Foundation, and SW Consulting. The campaign is supported by the Royal Thai Police and the Phuket Health Department.

We were fortunate to also have the support from Twinpalms Phuket for hosting our Bangkok based Superstars and Nok Airways for flying them to us safely. We have also had the support from Radio Trip FM 89.75 for Thai media information and for Phuket Online marketing for social media support.

It has taken a large team to put this together and we hope to encourage more support for the continued success of the campaign.

SAFETY TRAINING WORKSHOP

FREE Workshop – Including AED/CPR Training & ERT Team Training

On the 10th July, SGS will host a free lunch & safety workshop for the hospitality security and HR/ Training managers. This follows our hugely successful seminar earlier in the year and is a result of growing interest and demand for real safety and security training in Phuket.

This particular half day, interactive workshop, will include one of our most sought after courses – the Emergency First Responder Course – and introduces delegates to the use of AED’s (Automated External Defibrillators). SGS instructors will lead participants through a hands on, guided and interactive demonstration allowing them to really immerse themselves in the training.

The afternoon will also include an introduction to our Emergency Response Team Training (ERT) again with instructor lead role play scenarios for the guests to participate in. The ERT programme is a hugely vital part of any hospitality organisation and embed real skills into the delegates, with ongoing drill sequences and role plays over a protracted period of the time, the programme delivers real quality and lasting skills.

The afternoon promises to be informative, educational and fun for all attendees and is limited to only 50 participants. Therefore, please reserve your seat as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as all guests must be registered to attend.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING

New Emergency Response Team Training Course (ERT)

The SGS Team has developed an “Emergency Response Team” Course, designed specifically for the hospitality industry here in Thailand. An ERT is an essential and integral part of any organisation, to manage crisis situations in a planned and safe manner. The course builds on a mix of learned skills as well as building in new skills and drills to fully immerse the delegates into the realm of Safety and Security.

The SGS ERT course provides the hospitality industry with not just the skills, but also regular guided scenario scenes to keep the ERT team refreshed throughout the year, and for ERT members to derive solutions to emergencies that could potentially arise. The programmes are fully customised to individual properties, so the teams are fully aware of what to do at their own place of work.

“The most effective way to reduce the impact of a crisis, is to be fully prepared for one”

SGS Managing Director Barrie Buck.

The team will also be fully skilled across of a range of programmes including Emergency First Response, how to deal with injuries, management systems for larger scale problems and also how to perform CPR and use AEDs.

Additionally, the programme will introduce concepts of water safety and rescue which is hugely important given the number of swimming pools in hotels, and also the close proximity of beaches. An added benefit of the water rescue course is that it is also designed for non-swimmers to be actively involved with.

As well as the incorporation of Fire Management and Safety techniques, general Health and Safety Issues all dove tailed into Effective Crisis Management – the ERT programme will provide delegates with a wealth of knowledge, delivered over a staged period of time, complete with real time action drills to really harness the learning platform.

New Fire Fighting Training Facility Operational in Phuket

Thalang, Phuket, 14 May 2015

Galileo Maritime Crew Academy, providing world class training for luxury yacht crews, commissioned a customised MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency) standard Fire Fighting Facility to simulate actual conditions on board ships, giving their fire fighting & prevention course participants a realistic environment for their STCW (Standards of Training and Certification of Watchkeepers) training courses.

The facility is situated on the SGS Training Centre Base, in Thalang, where the two training schools will team together to provide the most comprehensive public Fire Fighting & Prevention training courses in Asia.

Recently the teams initiated the facility with a 3 day intensive Instructor Training and Development program with Mr. Paul Fear, the Maritime School Manager for the Devon & Somerset Fire Rescue Service.

Paul comments “Phuket is an ideal location for Asia based training courses, and for completing the MCA (Maritime & Coastguard Agency) required STCW Courses which allow successful students to legally work around the world on super yachts and luxury boats. The STCW will now be renewable every 5 years, and with the Galileo Fire Fighting course, large vessel crew & yachting crew members will no longer have to travel back to the UK to complete the refresher courses, with the facilities and training now available in Phuket.”

Paul, with 27 years experience in the Fire Fighting & Training industry, currently works for the Fire Rescue Service in the UK and their commercial department, RedOne. His brief trip to Phuket was to ensure that the Galileo and SGS fire instructors are up to date with training and teaching practices, preparing them to pass intensive audit checks and provide the high quality training expected from international clients.

Barrie Buck, Managing Director of Siam Guardian Services, has always included professional training courses as an integral part of the SGS staff development, instilling valuable life skills for all of his employees. He now intends to put all of the SGS management team through the intensive fire fighting course over the next few months. Barrie states “The training not only teaches important safety skills, it keeps the team motivated and working well together, encouraging respect and responsibility for each other in the workplace. It is important to keep these skills current, and with the facility now on our property, the team will refresh their skills yearly in both fire fighting and First Aid”

Fire Management and Prevention is one of the many available safety courses available through the SGS Training Centre, and can be booked for groups or individuals at sgsphuket.com or training@sgsphuket.com
